Larry Hamilton was born April 4, 1941 in Poplar MT. Larry was the middle child of five born to Harry and Nellie Hamilton. Our Heavenly Father took our dad on October 11, 2020 in Great Falls MT. Larry was 79 years old.
Larry grew up in Poplar and Oswego. In his teen life, he went to Washington State and then moved back to Poplar, the place that he loved and called his home. Through his years he had many jobs. Back in the late 60’s he became a Long-Haul Truck Driver. Larry loved trucking all over the states and then he decided to quit trucking and became a Police Officer on the Reservation for about 10 years. Larry was a Valley County Sheriff for 2 years; he also was the Fort Peck Assiniboine Sioux Tribes Fish and Game Supervisor for 5 years. Larry worked in the roustabout business. Larry was a heavy equipment operator which he was incredibly good at. In 2016, Larry entered the heavy equipment rodeo in Billings MT where he had taken 1st place and won a jacket and plaques by winning all 3 operating rounds. He was very proud of that. He also owned his own towing company, Hamilton’s Towing he loved his tow truck. He worked for mechanical systems. Larry started working with IRR. He later then moved on to Enterprise worked with Enterprise until his death. Larry never liked to stay home he was always doing something. Larry was always willing to lead a helping hand when someone needed help. Larry’s favorite sport was team roping and hanging out with his buddies.
Larry’s life was all about Team Roping with his brother Sonny, traveling, going to basketball games sitting front row at every game, other sporting events, and auctions. On his down time, he loved to just relax and watch a good western movie. Larry always knew how to make someone laugh; your typical jokester. He was one person you can count on the get the job done.
Larry is survived by Nadine Richards an long time dear friend and companion, his daughters Rose Martinez (Paul) of Mesa Washington, Taffy Hamilton(Shawn) of Billings, Bernita Granbois (Don) of McLaughlin South Dakota, Peggy Hamilton of Mesa, Washington, and Bernice Hamilton of Spokane Washington. His Sons Lawrence Hamilton, Dewayne Hamilton (Dani), Jason Hamilton, Terrence Hamilton (Theresa) and Mark Hamilton all of Wolf Point MT. Larry has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Nellie Hamilton, wife Cleo Hamilton, his brother Harry (Sonny) Hamilton, Sisters Dorothy Hamilton, Sharon Hamilton, Dixon and Judy Hamilton, Daughter Lori Hamilton and Son Larry Dee Hamilton.
Larry will be missed by many friends, nieces, nephew, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Dad rest in peace and fly high with all those cowboys. We love you dad and you will be missed dearly. Our Heavenly Father has one special cowboy now.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, Montana. The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Chelsea Church. Interment will follow at the Chelsea Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences can be left for the family by using the form below.
