Lawrence Louis Burshia, age 50, of Poplar, MT was born on October 22, 1962 took his final journey to the Grand Daddy of ‘em all in Heaven. Louie passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Poplar.
In high school he qualified for state all four years in wrestling, taking second his senior year. In High School Rodeo during his senior year, he was runner up for the all-around at the State High School Rodeo. He went to the National High School Finals in Douglas, Wyoming where he placed in the saddle bronc riding. Louie was recruited on a Rodeo Scholarship to the Navajo Community College in Tsaile, Arizona in 1982. He qualified for the National College Rodeo Finals in Bozeman, MT and also qualified for the Indian National Finals in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of Louie’s highlights in rodeo was in Wolf Point in 1981 at the Match Bronc Riding where he rode Brookman’s Barfly and placed in the go around.
In 1992, he welcomed his son, Harlin Louis into the world, named after his rodeo partner, Harlan Mount. Louie worked at various jobs but mostly helped his Dad at the Burshia Ranch doing what he enjoyed most – breaking horses.
Louie is survived by his parents, Larry and Nancy Burshia of Brockton, MT; mother, Darlene Longee of Lewistown, MT; son, Harlin Burshia of Wolf Point, MT; brothers, Michael Burshia of Poplar, and Rodney Burshia of Brockton; sisters, Shelley Duran of Colorado, Haven Burshia of Williston, ND, and Ann Burshia of Billings, MT.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; brothers, Garry and Russell; and sister, Orrie.
Louie, our son, dad, brother, and uncle, we will forever love and miss you. You are in God’s arena, now show them cowboys how it’s done!
A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, August 8 at the Cultural Center in Brockton, MT. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 9 at the Cultural Center in Brockton. Interment will follow at the Riverview Cemetery in Brockton.
Military Honors will be held on Monday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Brockton Riverview Cemetery.
