Lawrence Joseph Cleland Jr., age 35 of Tempe, AZ passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at his home in Tempe.
Lawrence was born on February 17, 1976 in Escondido, CA; the son of Mary G. (Eder) and Lawrence J. Cleland, Sr. He was raised with traditional Sioux religion and enjoyed horseback riding and playing chess. He graduated high school from Tempe High School and received a Presidential Achievement Award in high school. Lawrence was attending the Arizona State University and was in his 3rd year in the R.N. Program.
Lawrence is survived by his mother, Mary G. Cleland of Wolf Point, MT; father, Lawrence J. Cleland of Gilbert, AZ; brothers, Domonique G. (Carolyn) Stone of Gilbert and Michael Cleland of Phoenix, AZ; and sisters, Samantha Cleland and Brandi Cleland both of Gilbert and Sophia Cleland of Washington, DC.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James J. Eder Sr. and Gilbert Cleland; grandmothers, Mercelline Anderson and Rena Sutalo; and uncles, Victor Cleland and Christopher Cleland.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, August 28 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Arvol Looking Horse is to do final rights at the funeral service to be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 29 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar. A feed will take place at the Wolf Point Community Hall following the interment.
