Len Alvin Shafer Sr., age 51, of Williston, North Dakota, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2008 at Med Center One in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Len was born September 21, 1956 in Wolf Point, MT, to Laurella (Werner) and Leonard P. Shafer. He attended school in Poplar and graduated from Poplar High School in 1974. From there he moved to California, where he served in the navy and was honorably discharged, in 1978. He then served in the National Guard until he retired in 2005.
Len is survived by his four children, all of which he loved very much. Jodi Shafer of Billings, Missy (Jeff) Berger of Poplar, Len Shafer Jr. of Williston, Cassandra Shafer of Williston, two step daughters Toni Jamison of Eugene, OR and Anne Houlihan of Williston. Mother Rally Shafer of Poplar, two sisters Debbie Shafer of Williston and Laurie Shafer of Poplar. Grandchildren Makayla and Brayden Shafer, Jeffrey and Jacob Berger. He also has one niece, two nephews and eight great nieces and nephews.
Len was volunteer fireman of the Watford City Fire Department. He was also an active member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW of Williston. Len worked full-time for North Dakota Department of Transportation for sixteen years and part-time for Dakota Diesel for eight years and Mr. Gutter for two years.
Len loved fishing, hunting, camping, karaoke and four-wheeling with his friends and family. He looked forward to taking his annual fishing trip to Canada with his son and friends. He also enjoyed the ND-DOT rodeos and was looking forward to his second year of competing in the Trenton mud races, on his new four-wheeler.
Len will be greatly missed by all that he touched.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT starting at 4:00 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. His funeral service will be Friday, May 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
