Linda Mary Black Dog-RattlingThunder, 64, passed away due to cancer Saturday, June 25th, at Sidney Health Center.
Linda was a caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt who greatly loved all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Linda and her husband Leonard “Snow” raised three grandchildren as their own, Barry, MaShann, & Phoenix whom lived with them since they were babies.
Linda was born to Matthew E. Black Dog, Sr. and Delma I. Cloud-Black Dog on October 21st, 1946. She attended school in Brockton and worked as a “CHR”, Community Health Representative for the Fort Peck Tribal Health Program. She also was as an assistant to Dr. Cheng in the “ENT” Ear, Nose, and Throat Program, retiring after 16 yrs. in 1996.
She served on the Brockton School Board and the Culbertson “JOM” Johnson O Malley Committee.
She loved sewing, beading, attending powwows, watching basketball & football, following her sons and grandchildren in all sports. Her favorite college basketball team was the Duke Blue Devils and in 1997 her and husband had the opportunity to attend the National Final Four Tournament in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Every weekend she liked watching “PBR” Pro Bull Riding on Satellite TV. Her favorite song musician was Elvis Presley and a major highlight in her life was having the opportunity to go to Hawaii with her husband.
Linda is survived by her husband of 46 yrs. Leonard J. “Snow” RattlingThunder, Sr. of Riverside; Sons – Leonard “Lenny” RattlingThunder, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM., Melvin Terry (Melissa) RattlingThunder, Sr. of Brockton, MT, Francis “Frenchy” (Janet) Rattling-Thunder of Poplar, Harlan “Bug” (Sherri) RattlingThunder of Riverside, Matthew “Dude” (Francine) RattlingThunder, Sr. of Culbertson, MT.; one sister – Arletta Black Dog of Brockton, MT.; nephew- Arnon Black Dog of Poplar, MT; niece – Alesia “Baby Girl” Black Dog of Brockton, MT.; grandchildren – Jessica, Tylynn, Thatcher, Terrille, Keith, Jalen, Jamis, Melvin, Jr., Barry, MaShann, Brooks, Phoenix, Matia, Matt, Jr., Gerlynn, Elise, Mattisen, Blake, Avery, Allery, Armon, and Ariana.; great grandchildren – Chance, Chasen, Kameron, Taiya, Arley, Erin Lee, Miles, Micah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew Black Dog, Sr. and Delma Cloud-Black Dog; sister – Delores Black Dog; brothers – Matthew Black Dog, Jr. and Philmore Necklace.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Thursday June 30th at the Brockton Cultural Center in Brockton. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, also at the Brockton Cultural Center. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
