Lois Longtree

August 17, 1948 — September 7, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister Lois Longtree, daughter and friend, made her journey to the spirit world at the age of 74 on Wednesday September7 th , 2022 in Poplar, Montana due to natural causes. If you knew Lois she was compassionate, loved to quilt, play machines, advocated on Indigenous issues, cook for family gatherings, made sure everyone knew the family values, loved her grandkids very much.

Lois was born on August 17, 1948 to Gladys Jones Lewis and Stanley Crowe in Poplar, MT. As the oldest Lois would later welcome her sister Pauline Lewis, brothers Stanley Crowe IV, Curt and David Lewis; hunka sisters Ethel White Hawk, Bernadette Wind, Dee and Dolly Crowe, Beaulah Yazzie, Margarett Campbell, Vermae Taylor, Ruth Moore, Rae Jean Belgarde, Roxanne Smith, Ceya Long Hair, Susan (Arlyn) Johnson, Carolyn Brugh; hunka brothers Sammy Nygard

Lois married Dale Longtree in the 70s. Throughout their years together, they loved and cherished their children. Stanley Paul, Carolyn, Eugene, Stacey, Matthew, Fred Crowe-Longtree. Throughout her life Lois devoted her time to helping and visiting her many relatives across the reservation whether it was lobbying for her relatives or a friend in need at the Ft. Peck Tribal Board or another community agency. Lois was always there willing to help anyone who asked, Lois was the kind of person who thought of others, instead of herself, she loved quilting for relatives and friends.

Lois attended elementary and high school in Brockton, MT, received her high school diploma. Lois later worked for various tribal programs and spent the last few years of her life advocating on Indigenous issue fighting for clean water, education equity, and MMIW movement.

Lois loved all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the matriarch of her family and tried to keep all her relatives close and taught them to be supportive of each other, especially in times of need. Lois made many friends throughout her lifetime and valued their friendship. Grandchildren and great-grandchidren; Faith (Natron) and Ethan Longtree; Maireon (Adam) Walking Eagle; Alex, Danica, Brooklyn BullCalf; Zandora, MacKenzie Jeremy Longtree; Deacon and Sweetie Eagleman; Theo and Lawrence Crowe; Stephanie Greybull; Angeline, Laurel, Kc Cheek; Chelbi Brugh; Sunni Walking Eagle; Marta Deanna Jones; Micah Leggett; Katara and Gianna Long Hair; Marques and Loretta Brown; Emma (Cody) Lewis (Lucas, Raven, Emerson Caroll); Ben Wind; Stanette, Bo, ToSheena Crowe; Connie and Roberta Bird; Naomi and Wanita Young.

Lois is survived by her children, Carolyn, Matthew, Stacey, Stanley, Eugene. Her sister Pauline Lewis; brothers Curt, Stanley, David Lewis. Lois was preceded in death by her husband Dale Longtree, her parents Gladys Jones Lewis, Stanley Crowe, grandson Lawrence Crowe, Son Fred Crowe, nephews Bobbie Jo Blackdog, cousin Martha Blackdog, Connie Smith, Birdie & Doren White Hawk, Ralph Jones Jr., Jessie Walking Eagle, Michael Walking Eagle, cousin Ike, Peggy, Turby, Susie, Rebecca, Faye Melbourne and several of her relatives from the Jones, Fast Horse, Crowe, Melbourne, Walking Eagle, Clark, White Hawk, Bird. We know that Lois was dearly loved by all her relatives and friends, if we forgot anyone, we are terribly sorry.
