Lucille Ferole was born in Poplar on March 5, 1969 to Helmer (Fats) and Arlene Faye (Youngman) Peterson. She was named after her aunt Lucille Peterson Smjekel and her middle name came from her mom’s friend and co-worker, the late Ferole Pease.

She attended Poplar Schools and spent three years at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in Great Falls when her mother went back to college.

She returned home and graduated from Poplar High School in 1987.

After high school she worked for the Fort Peck Tribes Foster Home Licensing program while attending Fort Peck Community College.

She graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from FPCC in 1991. In May of 1996 she married Richard Holen and they settled in

Chelsea with their son, James Dean.

Lucille was hired by the Poplar School District in 1993 as the home-school coordinator and held that position for 27 years until her passing. She enjoyed working with the students and staff at the school over the years and became friends with many of them.

Lucille was involved in the Frontier 4-H Club with her son, James, and enjoyed gardening fishing, berry picking, yard sales, canning, crafting and riding horses. She also participated in her traditional Dakota ways including the sweat lodge and sundance.

Her home in Chelsea was a gathering spot during holidays and for many other gatherings.

She was an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux Tribes and was a descendant of the Youngman and Eagleman families, Medicine Bear, Skečana, Plenty Roads, Black All Over, Crazy Bull, Touches the Cloud and Her Bad Cane.

Lucille carried the Indian name of Wówičada Un Názíŋ Wíŋ or Stands With Faith Woman.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Richard Holen; son James Dean (Brooke) Holen; and her grandson Stetson Roan Holen, who was the star in her eyes.

Her surviving siblings include brothers Richard Peterson; Louis (Wendy) Peterson; and a sister Lesley (Donny) Moran.

She is also survived by her sister-in-law Gloria Urbaniak; her brother-in-law Bob (Janice) Holen and her Aunt Myrna Charbonneau of Poplar.

Lucille’s nieces and nephews include Olivia Moran, Jessica Peterson, Toni Peterson, Samantha Clark, Maggie Gourneau, Chuck Weinberger and Cody Weinberger, Chris (Latoya) Holen; Christean, Cole and Lanie Holen; her Godfather, A.T. Rusty Stafne; and many cousins and relatives too numerous to mention.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helmer (Fats) and Faye Peterson; sisters, Myrle Peterson, Janet Rose Peterson and Bonnie Weinberger; and a brother, Guy Peterson.

Lucille was a very loving and generous woman who was beautiful inside and out. She valued her home, community, school, friends and family and touched many lives during her 50 years on Earth. Thank you, Creator, for letting her be a part of our lives. Pidamaye.
