Madeline Moran

July 29, 1936 — May 16, 2019

Madeline Moran, Wapaha Yuha Enachpi Win (She Comes Out with a Warbonnet, age 82 of Fort Kipp, MT passed away on May 16, 2019 at the Roosevelt Memorial Nursing Home of natural causes.

She was born July 29, 1936 to Frank and Lavina (Lone Dog) Perry, but spent a majority of her younger days with her grandmother, Ruth Bull Eagle Half Red whom she cherished dearly. She married Vincent Moran Sr. and to this marriage six children were born, later they were divorced but remained close friends.  She was a member of the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church.

Madeline was very proud of the fact she was fluent in speaking the Dakota language, she would say she spoke Dakota before learning to speak English. This came in handy when she was a Headstart teacher, she would be so proud of her students when they learned to count to ten in the Dakota language.  Being a Headstart teacher for 40+ years takes dedication and compassion, which she had.  When she would go places and one of her students whether they were 3, 4 or 20 year olds greeted her, calling her teacher, she would be so thrilled they remembered her.  Mom was an amazing mother and grandmother, always knowing what to say to make your feel better when having a bad day.  She was someone who’s wisdom, warmth, thoughtfulness, and caring made such a difference in not only our lives, but others as well.  She would always cook plenty on Sundays so if her children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends decide to stop by, she can feed them, something she learned from her grandmother.

She is survived by sons, Kermit Moran and Billy Burshia, four daughters, Lois Moran of Fort Kipp, Joyce Simons, Val Moran and Marilyn Marottek (Harold) all of Poplar.  Grandchildren, Clayton (Shannon), Darci, Ashley (Eldon), Todd, Leah, Doug (Ryan), Chelci (Jerome) and great-grandchildren Dusti, Rylee, Dylan, Wayne, Aaron, Blake, Carly, Haley, Emma, Cammi, Lilly, Houston, Dreyton.  Sisters Leta Atkinson, Vernita Buckles and Irene Wilkins; brother Clyde Perry and extended families are the Half Red, White Bear, White Eagle, Black Dog, Four Bears and First.

Madeline is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lavina, son Vincent Moran Jr.; sisters Carol and Shirley Perry; brothers Carlos, Kermit, Victor, Adrian Perry
