Malcolm Daniel Smith (Mick) was born on November 3 rd 1926, in Poplar Mt. His parents were Edward and Vina Burshia Smith, he was the youngest of 8 children. He passed away on March 26 2014 at his daughter’s home in Poplar, after a long illness.
Mick married Iris Hall on January 1 st 1955 in Miles City Mt. They lived and worked side by side on the family ranch, until Iris passed in 2003, after being married for 47 years.
Daughter Valarie Smith was their only child, but the home was always filled with nieces and nephews. Mick only completed the 8 th grade, when WWII broke out he was needed at the family ranch. Mick ran the family ranch but made many friends while working at A&S until 1993. In his earlier years he did everything in the rodeo, from pickup man to bulldogging. But his forte was calf roping. From Texas to Montana many people recognized him and his yellow mare Suzie.
Mick was preceded in death by his wife Iris, siblings; Ray, June and Buck Smith, Orville, Howard (Sol), Leslie (Dutch) and Iva Grainger.
He is survived by his daughter Valarie Smith, granddaughters Kelly Lambert and Jessica Furuli. Great grandchildren; Kylie Lafromboise (Lance), Sarie and Ethan Murphy, Chance Smith and Chase Furuli. Sister In-Laws; Rosie Grainger (Orville) and Louise Smith (Buck). And many nieces and nephews that he enjoyed spending time with.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday March 28 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences can be sent to the family using the form below.
