Margaret L. Snell Big Leggins, age 74, of Poplar, Montana went to be with our creator on Tuesday March 26, 2008, at Faith Home in Wolf Point, MT.
Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and niece was born on Oct 3, 1933 to Lucille Davis and Lewis Snell at Poplar, MT. She went to school at Poplar, MT and at Pierre SD.
Margaret worked at A&S Industries when they did the nets for the military; Margaret enjoyed going to Wal-Mart, sewing, crosswords, pow-wows, decorating, collecting dolls and loved to travel. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play basketball & Cross Country.
She first married David Lester and from this marriage she had 2 children. Margaret then married Donald Big Leggins (deceased) from Frazer, from this marriage she had 8 children. She was with Mervin White Hawk they had 1 child from this union. Margaret married Sylvester Big Leggins then later divorced, but continued to be friends. Margaret raised five of her grand children.
Margaret is survived by Sisters; Agnes Ward (John), Rose & Brother in-law John H. Morsette, adopted sisters Patricia McGeshick (Butch), Lorraine Stormy, Sharon Yellow Owl and Connie Fast Horse. Children: Valerie White Hawk (Kenny) of Wolf Point, Brenda Big Leggins (Herman) of Poplar, LaVal (Rocky) Big Leggins of Poplar, Curtis Big Leggins of Wolf Point, Veronica (Ronald) Lambert of Wolf Point, Shannon (Jason) & Son in-law Carl Alden Sr. of Crow, MT. Adopted daughter Nellie Boyd of Ronan, MT. Step-son Richard Big Leggins. Aunties: Flora Sparvier, Irene Lowry, and Donna Chase. Uncles: Floyd, Willie and Arnold Eagle Boy. Nieces: Leanda Eder (Bernard), Tanya Steele (Tom), Melda, Jolene & Mary Ellen Grayhawk, Maude Kirn, Patricia Martinez (Jim) Denise McKay (Curtis), Loretta Kidder, Carla Jewett (Lionel), Vermae Taylor. Nephews: Mike Ward (Geraldine), Roy Snell Jr, Steven Grayhawk, Llewellyn, Brad Sr., Justin, Jason, Benjamin Grayhawk, John Buckley (Ft. Yates, ND), Jay Cummins (Joann). Brother in-law Stephan Grayhawk. Grand Children: Calvin Lester, Crystal Lester, Robert Birthmark, Donna Big Leggins, Dallas Four Bear, Skyla Weston, Tosha White Hawk, Miranda Scott, Jonathan Legget, LaVia Big Leggins, Nova Big Leggins, Mathew jr., Dustin, Andrea and Sueann Scott, Mattie, Orenda, Phillip & Andrew Big Leggins, Alvona and Alvino Spotted Elk, Alexis Big Leggins, Marnita Lambert, Ronald Sr., and Midas Lambert, Laval Big Leggins, Brian Jr., Corvette, Madonna and Fred Olson, Jessica, Brittany, Carl & Brandon Alden, Ashley Big Leggins, William Chopper, Mark, Michael and Danny Eder, Mikel, Kassidy and Tristian Ward, Thomas Steele Jr., Josie Swan, Chelsea, Tory, Barrie and Parker Kirn, Kieonna Fredricks & 51 Great-Grandchildren. Relatives Melissa Cantrell, Joan White Eagle, Vivian Jones, Midge Clancy, Luella Douglas, Leroy, Arnold, John and Mike Douglas, Lonnie Iron Bear, Pauline Boxer. A special person who always looked out for her was Denver Atkinson, also many more relatives.
She was part of the Assiniboine Medicine Lodge Society where she danced for the people for many years. She thought highly of Kenneth Ryan and Larry Wetsit who were a vital link to her sundancing. Margaret enjoyed going to the area sundance at Brockton & Chelsea, MT. She also sundanced at Ft. Yates, ND at the Kidders. She really had great respect for all the dancers there that welcomed her there.
Preceding her in death were her parents Lewis and Lucille Davis Snell, a sister Edna Grayhawk, brothers Kenneth Snell, Roy Snell Sr., Levi Snell, a son Percy Lester, Daughters Davetta Lester, Rhonda Big Leggins & Carla Olson, Grandchildren Starla Murphy, LaFonda Big Leggins, Geraldine and Annette Scott.
