Our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother and friend, Marie Alice Summers, age 78, of Poplar, MT went to be with God, Our Father, and Son, Jesus Christ, on May 21, 2009 at Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings, MT, surrounded by family.
Marie was born July 27, 1930 in Poplar, MT to Alice Lone Dog Smith and John Smith. She grew up in Poplar and attended Poplar Schools. In 1958 she attended Bible School in Huron, SD. She then moved and lived in Phoenix, AZ from 1959 to 1964, and attended the Cook Christian Training School graduating May 21, 1962.
On May 13, 1972 Marie married Robert “Bob” Summers in Brockton, MT. Bob passed away on January 4, 1977.
Marie made her home in Poplar since 1967. She was a homemaker, a member of the Assembly of God Church for over 30 years where she participated in singing and playing the piano. During this time (1987) she was also Secretary/Treasurer for the Women’s Ministries of the Assembly of God’s Church. Some of her daily routine always included watching the Christian channels on TV, reading novels and books of facts like trivia or about a special place, listening to religious music, or having coffee and lunch at the Buck Horn Café. She enjoyed spending time with her son, grandchildren and family. She also loved to travel and shop.
Marie is survived by her son, John F. and wife Stacey Summers of Wolf Point; grandchildren Sierra Marie and Peyton John Summers, both of Wolf Point, and Kinsey Skillen of Billings; sister, Evelyn Smith of Wolf Point; special nieces Karen Dubois of Wolf Pint and Geraldine Barber of Gallup, NM, who she took as daughters; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, Alice and John Smith; four sisters, Mercy McDonald, Fanny Kao, Irene Hollow Horn and Maybelle Chapman; and an infant brother.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the Poplar Assembly of God Church. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 also at the Poplar Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Poplar City Cemetery.
