Marilyn (Dahl) Vine, 89 of Billings, formerly of Vida, Mont., passed away at Riverstone Hospice Home on June 14, 2014, the day that would have been her and John’s 61 st wedding anniversary. Marilyn was born on September 20, 1924 in Outlook, Mont., the daughter of Arthur and Clara (Otness) Dahl. She attended various schools in the area, eventually graduating from high school in Plentywood. She worked for a number of years in the Plentywood area and was proud of her accounting skills and her bookkeeping job with Farmers Union and various other businesses, including the family farm in Vida.
Marilyn married John Vine on June 14, 1953 in Plentywood, and they were blessed with three sons, Leonard (Kelli) of the family farm in Vida, Dean (Terri) of Bozeman and Bob (Steve) of Minneapolis. They operated John’s family’s farm in the Vida community for many years, until John’s illness brought them to Billings in 2004, so they could be closer to medical facilities. Following John’s death in 2005, Marilyn moved to Mission Ridge where she developed many friendships and enjoyed the activities and lifestyle Mission Ridge provided. Despite the loss of her husband John, the past 10 years at Mission Ridge were very special to Marilyn and she cherished her apartment and her relationships with staff and neighbors.
Music was important for Marilyn. She enjoyed playing the piano and played at the daily devotions at Mission Ridge for the past 9 years. She was an avid card player and enjoyed a good game of Bridge. When able, she liked to partake in her grandchildren’s activities and was happy to meet her new great-granddaughter, Landry.
In addition to her children and their spouses, she is survived by her grandchildren, Kyle (Brianna), Brian, Jeff, Ryan, Sara and Tyler Vine; and great-granddaughter Landry.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; and her sister Delores Dahl.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. at Michelotti-Sawyers and cremation will follow. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, at the Lillis Chapel in Mission Ridge, 3840 Rimrock Road.
