Mario “Romeo” Renee Carrillo, age 57, of Poplar, MT left this world on Friday, September 16, 2011 in Glendive, MT after a long illness.

Romeo was born on January 2, 1955 in Poplar, MT to Willie Carrillo and Lotene Walking Eagle Carillo. He was taken in by Allen and Esther Spotted Bull from the time he was three weeks old and raised as their own.

Romeo had lived in Poplar for most of his life. He was a member of the National Guard for several years. He briefly lived in California and Minnesota while working a variety of labor jobs.

He graduated from Fort Peck Community College in 2009 with a certificate in Building Trades. Romeo enjoyed being with his friends, playing guitar and in his younger years was interested in photography. His home was always open to anybody who needed a place to stay. He was also there to help his sister April raise her four sons (David, Trevor, Norman and Richard Vondall). Romeo was a caring man who was there to help his family and friends. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Romeo is survived by his son, Joshua Burshia of Brockton, MT; one granddaughter, Kenicia Burshia of Brockton; two brothers, Ronnie Spotted Bull of Poplar and Pedro “Poncho” Carillo of Billings, MT; one sister, Jeanne (Robin) Charette of Poplar.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Willie Carrillo and Lotene Walking Eagle; Allen and Esther Spotted Bull; one brother, Harley Spotted Bull and a sister, April Vondall.

A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 21 at the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22 also at the Lindsey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar.

Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
