Mary B. Hayes, our beautiful and loving mother went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on January 13, 2018 at NEMHS in Wolf Point, Montana. She was born, August 31, 1932 to Clarence and Mary (Fox) Brockie at their home in Hays, Montana.
Mary attended school at the Mission in Hays, Montana and Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota. She later received her G.E.D. and 2 years of college in Glendive for Early Childhood Education. She worked for Fort Peck Headstart for 15 years. In December 13, 1950, she met and married Wilbert Jackson. To this union they had 8 children. He passed away in 1976. She later met and married August “Gus” Hayes until his passing in 1994. Mom was a very beautiful and loving mother to many children on the Fort Peck Reservation. She was always there to lend a hand to anyone no matter who they were. She was known as “Ma Hayes” and too many as “Grama Mary.” Mom was a devoted Catholic all her life and recently gave her heart and life to the Lord on January 7, 2018.
Mom is survived by her daughters, Mary Sue Jackson and Wilberta Toavs (Marvin). Her brother, Henry “Prince” Brockie (Ruby). Many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, two adopted sisters, Carol Jones and Patt Iron Cloud-Runsthrough.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary (Fox) Brockie, her brothers, Joseph “JoeJoe”, Morris “Brickie”, James “Skunk”, Georgie and Teddy Brockie. Her sisters Teresa Nellie, Ella Aragon, Catherine, Agnes “Aggie” Adams, Frances “Frosty” Brown, Cecilia Marie, Helen Ruth, Ann Helgeson and two adopted sisters Rose Connor and Henrietta Cochran. Her daughter Rosalyn “Toni” Jackson, sons Wilbert, Clarence “Indian”, Stonewall, Emerson, and James Jackson. Her grandchildren Rebecca and Robert Archdale and Jordie Jackson.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 16 at the Frazer Community Hall. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 17 at the Frazer High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Frazer. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
