Melissa Sioux Jackson Mitchell was born on August 27, 1979 in Wolf Point, Montana to Maynard Jackson, Jr. and Agnes “Baby Girl” Spottedwolf. She attended school from kindergarten through the third grade in Frazer, Montana and graduated from Poplar High School. She then went to Poplar Community College and graduated with a business degree and a degree in computer science. She worked for the Fort Peck Tribes in the Loans Department.
Her paternal grandparents are Ernastine Fourstar and Maynard Jackson, Sr. Maternal grandparents are Vera Iron Man and George Spottedwolf, Jr. Her great-grandparents are George Spotted Wolf, Sr and Gertrude Bad Gun of Fort Berthold, North Dakota and Josephine and Wilson Jackson.
Melissa is survived by her husband, Bobby Mitchell; daughter, Blain Marie Medicine Elk; son, Isiah Jayden Medicine Elk; mother, Agnes “Baby Girl” Spottedwolf; sisters, Tara Rasmusson of Minnesota, Sabrina Smoker of Frazer, Montana, and Sharon Lilly of Wolf Point, Montana; brothers, Clint Jackson of Wolf Point, Montana, and Dexter White of Frazer, Montana; several aunts and uncles; close relatives, Jessie Nicole Baur, Krista Baur, Belle Starr, Evangeline “Angel” Bighorn; and best friend, Leilani Reddog.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Blain Marie Jackson; brother, Jarred Tyme Jackson Smoker; stepfather, Peter “Sam” Boxer.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, January 17 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Frazer. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
