Mercy Martina (White Thunder) WhiteBear “Tipi ed epiwin” (Good Hospitality Woman), age 85, of Fort Kipp, MT passed away July 4, 2011 in Poplar, MT.
Mercy was born November 9, 1925 to Herman White Thunder and Ruth Bull Eagle in Blair, Montana. She attended school until the 9th grade at the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon.
Mercy was a woman of faith and was a lifelong member of the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church. Over the years, along with being a homemaker, Mercy was employed as a home heath aid and a cook for the senior citizen program. Mercy was a very hospitable woman she enjoyed sharing food, gifts, and most of all a good story when she would receive visitors.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Bemer and Donette WhiteBear both of Fort Kipp, MT; and sons, Michael (Della) Thomas Sr., Maynard WhiteBear, and Marlin WhiteBear all of Fort Kipp.
Mercy was preceded in death by her parents, Herman White Thunder and Ruth Bull Eagle Half Red; grandparents, Adam and Estelle Bull Eagle; sisters, Lavina Pony and Sylvia Half Red; and brothers, Calvin WhiteThunder and Loyal Half Red.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at the James BlackDog Activity Center in Fort Kipp. Mercy’s funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 8 also at the James BlackDog Activity Center in Fort Kipp. Interment will follow at the Fort Kipp Cemetery in Fort Kipp.
Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
