Michael “Mikey” Quinn Main, also known as Tatanka Duta Mani (Red Walking Buffalo), age 21, started his journey to the Creator on January 18, 2024, at his home in Poplar, Montana.
Mikey was born on March 5, 2002 in Glasgow, Montana. Mikey grew up in Poplar where he attended school. He graduated from Poplar High School in 2020 and he proudly earned varsity letters, accomplishments and accolades in football and basketball. He was also very deadly on the quads in drumline. Mikey’s first job out of high school was working at Frostee’s. He then went on to work with Fort Peck Tribes on the Fencing Crew, and then moved on to working with the Fort Peck Tribal Courts as a Bailiff and Process Server. At the time of his passing, he was employed as a SORNA Officer with the Fort Peck Tribes and had recently finished Tribal Probation Academy training.
Mikey had an infectious personality. His laughter always brought everyone together and lifted everyone’s spirits. He enjoyed being an outdoorsman, liked fishing and hunting. His favorite hobby was working with his dad Waylon on restoring cars. He was very laid back and had an easy going personality with such an optimistic outlook on life. He was a dedicated and avid sports fan with a deep passion for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the San Francisco 49ers, the Boston Celtics, and the Boston Red Sox. He shared his excitement for these team sports with friends and family. Mikey had immense pride and joy in playing games and sports with the fellas, but above all he was most proud of being himself and supporting his big brother Wynn, displaying unmatched enthusiasm for his accomplishments.
In remembrance of Mikey, who was not just a great little brother but truly a great man, he brought joy, warmth and a special bond that enriched all our lives. He never needed anything to have a great time because he was a great time. Mikey found joy in life’s simplest moments and inspired us to be better. Mikey’s remarkable ability to encourage those around him to be a better version of themselves, his positive outlook, outrageous humor, and kindness reminds us of the importance of embracing life with gratitude and a genuine spirit. Mikey is remembered through his family, friends, and loved ones, including: his parents Connie & Waylon Youpee and his father Thomas Main. His brothers Wynn Main, Samuel Main, Cyan Main, Waylon Youpee Jr. (Hannah & nephew Waylon Youpee III “Yamni”), and Andrew Azure-Youpee. Grandparents Terry Thompson, Georgianna “Babe” & Clayton Old Elk, Claudia Thompson, Betty Martell, William “Snuffy” Main, Jiggs & Rosie Main, and Shirley Jackson. His adopted Mom and Dad Greg & Mary Plante. His Aunts and Uncles, Gib & Jen Medicine Cloud and family, Matthew WhiteCloud, Janie & Rack Four Horns and family, Stephanie & Marvin Whitecloud-Brass and family, Aumry WhiteCloud, Linda Old Horn, Veronica (Art) St. Germaine, Carol Cummins, Marge & Adrian Spottedbird, J.R. & Valerie Old Horn and family, Sonny & Stephanie Old Elk and family, Dora & Nick Birdshead and family, Anna & Mann Johnson and family, Willard & Tsiling White, Mike & Bernice Jordan and family, Deven DeMarriss and family, Jazmyn DeMarriss and family, Dyan Youpee, Dylan & Misty Youpee and family, Meredith & Kirby Reynolds and family, Autumn White and family, Missy Red Dog and family, and Vermae Smith and family.
