Nathan Dumont Jr.

April 12, 1968 — June 2, 2017

Nathan Dumont Jr., 49, of Wolf Point, MT passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 2, 2017 in Billings, MT.

Nathan was born April 12, 1968 in Lander, WY, to Nathan Dumont Sr. and May White Hawk. He grew up attending schools in Wolf Point and Ashland, MT. In his younger years, he enjoyed listening to music, hanging out with friends, telling stories, and reading about his Native culture, as well as speaking the Assiniboine language. Being a free-spirited person he loved to pick up and go. He would be gone for months, sometimes for years but would always return with his stories and tall tales which he loved to tell. He worked odd jobs wherever he was to get to his next destination. Although there were a handful of places he frequented, his favorite place to be was being back home around his friends and family. He enjoyed his nieces and nephews near and afar, while they were growing up and would always have a story for them or an Indian word to teach them. To all who personally knew Nathan, would agree that he lived his life the way he wanted and nobody could say different. He lived big with very little and he loved it to be known.

In 2010, Nathan retired his traveling shoes and made Wolf Point, MT his home. It was there that he met Anita White and took pride in being around her children along with the grandchildren. If he wasn’t playing crazy 8 cards, cruising the country side or fishing, he would be spending time with grandkids, Chandalynn, and Monroe Smoker, Kelly White, Elijah, Loren, and Leigha Smoker. He will truly be thought of and missed by all his loved ones.

Nathan is survived by his son, Travis Quinten Dumont and grandson Takota Lyle Dumont, daughter Kelly Lorraine Dumont all of Philadelphia, MS; Brothers, Loren Forrest and Lionel Weeks of Wolf Point, MT, Sisters, Vivian Dumont Welliver of Spokane, WA, Lisa Garza of Helena, MT, and Ramona Clark of Bismarck, ND. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and his loving Aunt Elaine Cantrell of Wolf Point, MT.

He was preceded in death by his mother, May; father, Nathan Sr.; and sisters, Louise Bokas and Lora Stone.
