Nelson Ray Bird of Wolf Point, MT left us on Wednesday, September, 26, 2012 to join the spirits in a better place. He was born on March 2, 1952, he was sixty years old.
The family moved back to North Dakota when he was ten years old. He resided in North Dakota until 1980, when his father (Stephen Bird) passed on. He got his education in Grafton, ND, and dropped out of school when he reached the 8th grade. He liked to be outdoors so he mostly worked on farms and ranches and automobiles, when he stayed with his brother Amos. His biggest enjoyment was fishing, he could sit by the river day and night if you would let him. He was a very generous person, always smiling and willing to help whenever he could. We’re going to miss him very much. We don’t think we’ll ever forget him. He was the type of person who could be serious or he could be a clown. Our memories are plentiful, we thank the Lord for the 60 years he gave him to us.
He was preceded in death by his father Stephen Bird Sr. His mother Agnes Ownspipe Bird. Two brothers, Victor Bird and Jacob Bird; four sisters, Elizabeth Smith, Priscilla B. Day, Lena Spotted Wolf, and Christine Bird. Eight nephews, Paul Bird, Mark(Tinker) Martell, Lyle James Miller, Thomas(Johnny) Bird, Wilfred Bird, Russell Bird, Bobby Bird, and Wade Bird. His niece Emily Bird; sister-in-law Cheryl Cloud.
He is survived by his brothers, Amos(Buster) Cloud of Poplar, MT, Steve (Woody) Bird Jr. (Violette) of Tuba City, AZ, his sisters, Serena Bird of Wolf Point, MT, Corlene Kraus (John) of Glendive, MT, Carolyne Henry of Savage, MT, and many nieces and nephews. He was especially fond of his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandson. He thought the world of his great granddaughter, Daniella(DJ) Garcia, and he was real fond of his great great grandson Kaylinn Headdress. He didn’t get to meet him, but he spoke of him often.
“If teardrops were pennies I’d be able to build a stairway to heaven to bring you home again. But we can’t, so until we meet again I’ll do my best to be strong for you.”
A wake will be held Tuesday, October 9 at the Cultural Center in Poplar, MT. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 10 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery in Riverside, MT.
