Nola Culbertson, age 68, of Wolf Point, MT went to the arms of the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.
Nola was born in Poplar, MT on March 30, 1944 to Evelyn and Carson Walking Eagle. Due to her mother’s passing, she spent the majority of her childhood being raised in Riverside, MT by her grandparents.
In 1961, she met the love of her life, Eugene Culbertson, who also loved her dearly. They married and they had 4 daughters, Evelyn, Carla, Genette, and Cheryl, whom they raised in Poplar. Once her children were grown and on their own, she decided that she would follow her life’s dream of earning her Bachelor’s degree. She then attended Naes College in Poplar and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services. She worked for Spotted Bull Treatment center for 10 years, and then went to work at the B.I.A. where she retired in 2010.
Together, Nola and Gene loved planting a garden every spring. She loved to work out side in her yard and gardening. She also loved animals, which led her to raising collies. Her two favorites were Sam and Sammy. She loved to go camping, fishing, hunting, traveling, and shopping with her family.
Nola is survived by her daughters, Evelyn (Peter) Arosemena, Carla (Ken) Damon both of Poplar, and Cheryl (Ray) Nygaard of Wolf Point; grandchildren, Munch (Angela) Culbertson, James Rowe both of Poplar, Ben (Kylee) Lovan of Wolf Point, Michael (Britt) Kelsey, Mitch (Abri) Lovan, Yvette (Mikkel) Shields all of Poplar, Clay, Tyler, Lainey, and Bree Nygaard all of Wolf Point; great grandchildren, Sahnose, Kenidi, Carmen, Brodi, Laila, and Dayton; sisters, Nancy (Larry) Burshia and Doreen Red Eagle both of Poplar, Eleanore Goodbird of New Town , ND; brothers, Carson Walking Eagle, Jr. and Pedro Carrillo both of Billings, MT.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene M. Culbertson; daughter, Genette Culbertson; father, Carson Walking Eagle; mother, Evelyn Walking Eagle; sister, Carlene Lester; brother, John Mail; grandparents, Lucien and Adele Walking Eagle.
Nola was a very kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who always had a smile for everyone, she devoted her life to her family.
A vigil service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 8 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar.
