Norman Lee (John) Muskrat, was born on February 18, 1962 in Poplar, MT to Vida Muskrat and Clarence Longtree Sr. Norman, also known to many as Hindu, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11:31 a.m. at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, MT.
John attended school in Poplar, MT and later went on the Mormon placement program where he attended school in Mesa, Washington.
John would spend weekends with his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Dusty Menz in Fort Kipp where he loved to ride horses.
John worked for many years at A&S Tribal Industries. He also was an avid firefighter in the summertime for many years.
In his later years, John liked to go for long walks and go fishing. He liked to cruise with friends and listen to music.
John is survived by his mother, Vida Muskrat of Poplar; sisters, JoAnn Russell of Poplar, Bonnie Menz of Fort Kipp, Pauline Granbois, Maria Youngman, Margaret Olson, and Tara Longtree all of Poplar; brothers, Clarence Longtree Jr., and Dennis Longtree both of Poplar; adopted sons he helped raise as his own, Raymond (Sonny) Track, and Ira (Totz) Track both of Brockton, MT; his longtime companion, Carl Clincher and step children, Robin and Jo’e Youngman and Kristopher Boyd all of Poplar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Longtree Sr.; brother, Desmond Muskrat and Earlwin (Davey) Muskrat; and oldest sister, Catherine Russell.
A family service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at the Cultural Center in Poplar. Interment will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
