Pearl Louise Macdonald

Pearl Louise Smith Macdonald, age 79, of Oswego, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Poplar Hospital due to complications of diabetes.

Pearl was born in Poplar to Emma M. Longee and Charles F. Smith on June 10, 1928.

On January 17, 1949, Pearl married the late Clarence “Tige” Macdonald and lived in the Chelsea area until 1955. From 1956 through 1963 they lived in Dillon, MT where she worked at an Army/Navy Surplus Store as the manager. The family moved back to the Oswego area where she lived until her death.

When Pearl was 49 she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in History and Social Sciences at the Northern MT College in Havre. She became the Director of the Tribal Elders Program in Ft. Belknap, Mt. Pearl worked as a Home Health Nurse, Juvenile Officer and many years as a Social Worker for the BIA.

Pearl especially loved the Lord and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since 1962 and of the Ladies Relief Society. Pearl was married and sealed for time and all eternity to her husband, Clarence in Cardston Mormon Temple, Alberta Canada in 1995. She also loved to sew, bead, play Bingo, cook, garden, can food, visiting her family, friends and grandchildren. Pearl enjoyed life and was a good example of who a friend should be and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Pearl is survived by her six children, Linda Savior and Clarence Macdonald, Jr. both of Poplar, Arlene (Jerry) Small, Frank (Connie) Macdonald and Debbie (Horace) Pipe all of Wolf Point and James Macdonald of Oswego and 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emma Snith; her husband Clarence “Tige”, brothers Leonard, Charles “Pop” and Frank Smith; sisters, Lillian Hertz, Maizie Smith and Rosemary Lamb; grandsons, Leo Saddleback and Robert Macdonald and one great-granddaughter Payton Weinberger.

Visitations for Pearl will begin Thursday, April 3, 2008 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Poplar at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. also in Poplar at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will be at Poplar City Cemetery.
