It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rachel Walter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Rachel was born on February 13, 1946 to Elias and Sarah Waldner in Cardston, Alberta. Mom lived at West Raley Colony until she married her beloved husband, the late Ben Walter, in 1972. She lived at Surprise Creek Colony until 2006 and then moved to Prairie Elk Colony until the time of her passing.
Mom was a quiet lady who loved to keep herself busy with many hobbies. She did the task at hand with love and joy. Working with the ladies on the colony was her pleasure. She enjoyed spending quality time with her loved ones. Mom was a person of few words. She would sit and enjoy just being with her family. Mom’s words were measured and she had wisdom for us all. With her simple trusting faith, she showed us how to love the Lord in deed and truth with kindness to her fellowman.
Dad’s passing broke mom’s heart more than we know. Six weeks after he left us mom was diagnosed with cancer. She fought bravely. We felt the Lord’s tender love and His great mercy upon us with each doctor’s visit and flight to the ER.
Mom was at White Lake in June and July for six weeks. It was a great blessing to be able to spend this time with her grandchildren and it was an opportunity for her family to come and visit her. We will miss mom dearly and treasure the many memories we have of her.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Diane and son-in-law Toby Walter, three grandsons Caleb, Ryan, and Tristan; two granddaughters Rachel and Hayley, and her beloved daughter Rose Anna. Her brothers and sisters: Joe (Rachel), Jake (Susie), Dave (Susie) of Stronski, Katie (Jake) of Spring Point, Susie (Joe) of Copperfield, Rosa (Mike) of Leedale. Her brothers and sisters-in-law of Prairie Elk: D. Annie, Joe and Annie, Paul and Rachel, Min. David and Susie, Mary Walter and many nieces and nephews.
Rachel is preceded in death by her beloved husband Ben Walter, her parents Elias and Sarah Waldner, a baby son Eli Phillip and a baby daughter Lois Marie. Brothers Elias (Elizabeth) and Chris (Susie) of Stronski. Sisters Mary (Sam) of Valley view, Sarah (Elias) of Jumbo Valley and Theresa (Dave) of Hodgeville.
