Reuben Johnson, age 95, of Poplar, MT passed away Friday, January 31 at the Glendive Medical Center.
Reuben was born in Brockton, MT on December 8, 1918 to Mr. & Mrs. Julius M. Johnson, his folks homesteaded North of Brockton. During the Depression, the family, which included two sisters and four brothers, moved to Hening, Minnesota.
Reuben graduated from High School in Hening, MN and from there attended Coyne School of Electricity in Chicago. Reuben entered the Army in February, 1942. He served four years in the Army, 18 months overseas. Incidental to his service overseas he was authorized to wear the European Theatre of Operations ribbon, American Theatre of Operations ribbon, Combat Infantry badge, Presidential Citation, Good Conduct medal and Victory medal. He also received 4 Bronze Stars.
On May 26, 1946, Reuben married his sweetheart, Beverly Angell. They had two children, Sonja Lemons and Bruce Johnson. While living in Brockton, he was manager of the Johnson Value store. He and his family moved to Billings where he became a TV technician.
Reuben enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He has three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. In 1999, Reuben’s wife passed away. He then moved to Poplar. On March 2011 Reuben moved to the Veterans Home.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Buster Johnson, Bert Johnson, Millard Johnson, Joe Johnson, Bernice Nygard, and Ruth Iverson.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Curry, Russell, and Heather; and great grandchildren, Shayla, Coby, Nicole, Kadence, and Rylee.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 7 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point with cremation to follow.
