Richard Nygard, age 59 of Poplar, MT passed away Monday, October 20, 2008 at home after a long battle with cancer. Richard was born in Poplar on January 22, 1949 to Sam and Bernice Nygard. He attended schools in Brockton and Poplar graduating in 1967. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Brockton, MT.
Richard lived all his life in the Poplar and Brockton area. He worked on oil rigs, for Nelson Implement in Poplar, worked on the Sprole bridge. He farmed with his dad since 1971 and also drove truck for many years with his dad (Nygard Trucking). Richard was a pioneer in the farming game; he was never afraid to try any new crop.
On June 22, 1984 he married Rita Andreasen in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Brockton.
Richard was always up for a good prank; he loved to laugh, was a great story teller and always bragging of Grandma Bee’s cooking. He loved having family and friends around and hunting and fishing. Richard enjoyed serving the community on various boards including First Community Bank, Culbertson State Bank, Riverview Cemetery and Poplar Schools.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rita; his children, Samantha Nygard, Lloyd Nygard and Michele Nygard, all of Poplar; his mother, Bernice Nygard of Brockton, Mother-in-law, Mary Louise Andreasen of Dagmar, MT; a twin sister, Betty (Dave) Belakjon of Fort Peck; four brothers, James (Phyllis) Nygard of
Wolf Point, MT, Robert (Diane) Nygard of Fort Peck, Danny (Peggy) Nygard of Cut Bank, MT and Sammy Nygard of Brockton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sam Nygard and his father in law, Virgil Andreasen.
There will be an Evening Service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October, 22, 2008 and a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2008 both at the Richard Nygard Farm. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Brockton.
