Richard Dale Stormy, age 61, of Poplar, MT passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. Richard was born on April 20, 1957 to the late Lorraine Wakan Stormy and the late Clarence D. Stormy. Richard was 3rd to the oldest of 7 children. Richard attended school in Poplar and graduated from Intermountain boarding school in 1975 in Brigham City, Utah. Richard loved to hunt and fish every summer. He would put up a tent by the Missouri River; everyone knew it was Richard’s camp. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing he would cruise around and listen to the radio, always listening to his oldies (as we called it).
Richard worked various jobs; he was a firefighter and crew boss, worked on the road department and on the oil rigs. He had 2 children, a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Ben, from previous marriage and later he had a daughter, Rikki and a stepson, Tyrone White Hawk, whom he helped raise as his own. He also helped raise his nephews, Mark and Michael McClammy and Clarence “Luke” Stormy. Richard was well known around town and often would hang out with the local street people; always giving them a place to sleep or warm up. We will miss his teasing and especially his smile and laugh.
Richard is survived by his son, Ben (Ida) Brien; stepson, Tyrone White Hawk of Plentywood; daughter, Rikki Stormy of Great Falls; sister, Jackie (John) Spotted Bird; adopted sisters, Pauline Boxer, Wilma Longee, and Bernice Martin all of Poplar; adopted brothers, Jake White Bull, Shepherd (Lips) Youpee; special nephews whom he helped raise, Mark and Michael McClammy, Rodney Drum and Clarence “Luke” Stormy; special aunts , Cecelia Brown of Canada and Nellie Silk of Wolf Point; and many nieces and nephews. Richard had a lot of relatives including, the Youngman family, the Black Dog family, the Jones family, the Drazst family, special cousins, Delilah and Tom Alfrey of Idaho, Linda and Eugene (Tiny) Parslow of Spokane, WA, LaVerne Wakan, Cam and Sharon Brown of Canada, Louise Ell, Gloria Chopper, Pearl Hopkins, Barbra Birdsbill, Charles Silk and Marlon Hunte.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Clarence Stormy; daughter, Jessica Beth Brien; 5 brothers, Richard, Johnny Rae, James, Rodney, and Russell Stormy; nieces, Lori Brien, Sherry McClammy, and Jonna Spotted Bird; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
