Robert DuWayne Fladeland, 69, of Poplar died Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana.
Robert was born on April 15, 1944 in Hayes, Kansas to Ralph and Delores (Miller) Fladeland. After his father was discharged from the Army, they moved to Stanley, North Dakota and later to White Earth, North Dakota.
He graduated from Tioga High School in 1963. After graduation he enlisted in the Army as a paramedic. After his discharge he went to one year of college in Williston, North Dakota and also worked at Mercy Hospital there. After graduation from the Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis in 1968, he applied for work at the Poplar Hospital in January of 1969.
Bob met Kathy McDonald at work and they married May 22, 1969. They had two daughters, Kim and Mary. Bob enjoyed fishing, computers, spending time with family, keeping his lawn looking great, and watching trains.
Bob was very proud of his 43 years of employment with NEMHS in Poplar until his retirement in December 2012. Bob loved working at the hospital.
Bob is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Kim Liggett of Garrison, North Dakota, daughter Mary (Matt) White of Sheridan, Wyoming; granddaughters Angel (Mitch) and great grandson Austyn of Mandan, North Dakota, Julie (Erik) Killion and great grandson Ivyn of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Ashley Fladeland of Mandan, North Dakota; brothers Gary Fladeland of Kenmare, North Dakota and Ralph Fladeland of Tyler, Texas, and nephew Gary Fladeland.
Bob was preceded in death by both parents.
A special thanks goes out to the staff, doctors, and nurses who cared for Robert in Poplar and Billings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Robert’s name to NEMHS in Poplar.
A vigil service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. The Rite of Committal will follow at the Poplar City Cemetery in Poplar. Condolences for the family may be left at: www.claytonstevensonchapel.com .
