Robert Ellsworth Shumway of Wolf Point, MT passed away on Friday, February 11,2022 at the age of 75. After several months of battling cancer, Bob died peacefully with family by his side.
Bob was born in Wolf Point, MT on October 6, 1946 to parents George and Pearl Shumway. He attended Wolf Point High school and then joined the workforce immediately after. He spent the majority of his adult life working with the Wolf Point Schools system as a janitor where he was able to keep an eye on his children and their many activities. Bob came from a large family and was happy to start his own.
From a previous marriage came his first born, a son, Justin Shumway. Later, he met the love of his life Linda and on June 28,1980 they were married. Soon after they started their family. They had 4 children together: Sheridan, Christina, Angela, and Samuel. Bob loved his children and worked hard to provide for them but he lived for his grandchildren. He was the best grandpa anyone could have and made sure to spoil them especially with treats, always saying, “These kids need their ice cream”. He also taught them important life lessons, like counting, by playing blackjack and poker with them. He was known as “grandpa with the trains” by some of his grandchildren because he would sit at the table and play trains every time they visited. He truly was the best grandpa a kid could have.
He is survived by his children: Justin Shumway, Sheridan Shumway, Christina (Derek) Lute, Angela (Zachary) Stracener, and Samuel (Suzanne) Shumway, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Siblings: Sharon Atkins, Donna Kellum, Ann Hagemeister, Lacey Cortez, Joy Welch, Scott Shumway, and Jeff Shumway and many extended family members. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Linda, parents George and Pearl, brothers: William(bill), Charles, Lloyd, George Jr Shumway and grandson Brayden Stracener.
There will be no services held at this time but a joint celebration of life for Bob and Linda will be held later this spring.
The family would like to thank NEMHS for all of their wonderful care and compassion.
