Robert was born on November 1, 1953, in Wolf Point and passed away on February 7, 2019, in Poplar. He was the son of Jeannette Cloud and Lester “Jim” Youpee. His Maternal Grandparents were Rebecca Campbell and Moses Cloud and his Paternal Grandparents were Helen Lester, Joe Brushorn and Frank Youpee. He descends from the Santee Sioux on his mother’s side and Miniconjou on his father’s side.
Around the age of 3, Bobby was diagnosed with a childhood bone disease. He had to wear a cast that covered his lower body. After his casts, he used crutches. Being the typical rambunctious boy that he was, he could run faster on his crutches than any kids trying to keep up with him. Despite his health issues at such a young age and not being able to start school on time, he grew to be an all-around athlete. He excelled in baseball, track, basketball and football. When he was a junior in high school he played in a football game against Culbertson with a broken ankle. After he scored a touchdown he went to the hospital. Bobby graduated high school from Brockton.
He joined the Army in 1976 and was later discharged. In 1977, he met Lujuana Fire Cloud. They married and later divorced but remained close. Together they had 4 children: Karen, Robert Jr., Sophina, and Edith. They also raised 2 children as their own: Kelly and Summer. He was a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In the past, Bobby coached basketball, sat on the Brockton School Board and was a Housing Commissioner. His jobs included: Transportation, Tribal Courts, Juvenile Detention Center, Water Plant, Headstart and the Brockton Schools.
Survivors include his children: Karen (Erik), Sophina, Edith (Landis), Summer (Louie), Robert Jr., and Kelly. Grandchildren: Coby, Shauntae, Jonathan, Toby, Trysten, Ivey, Gracie, Dante, Diondre, Dacia, Dylan, Keenon, Draven, Kaden, Chloe, Kahlil, Keith and Kail, and one Great-Grandson Elijah. Nieces and nephews: Valerie, Leslie, Jeannette, Heather, Sean, Jim, Maria, Debi, Wayne Jr., Valerie, Jodie, Machelle, Samson, Waynette, Sharon, Colleen, Grace, Kevin, Johnnie, Jamie, Calvin Jr., Angeline, Ira, Raymond, Windy, Millie, Marion and Shilo.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Jeannette, Grandparents Moses and Rebecca Cloud, Helen and Joe Brushorn and Frank Youpee. Grandson Jayden. Brothers and Sisters: Lester Jr., Joe, Gary, Tommy, Russell, Dolly, Delores and Linda. Nieces and Nephews: Dani Jo, Tiffany, Joseph, Kenny, John, Denise and Rocky.
He was lucky enough to have several close friends in his life like EJ Lambert, Rusty Walking Eagle, Rae Jean Belgarde and Sammy Nygard. So many memories to cherish.
He was a hero to his children and grandchildren, the apple of Sharon’s eye, a favorite uncle, and a friend to many. He had a great sense of humor and told the best stories. He will be missed tremendously by all of us.
