Sally Dewayne of Wolf Point passed away on Sunday in Wolf Point of heart related causes. Sally was born in Culbertson on November 16, 1933 and raised on the family farm between Bainville and Culbertson. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard “Dick” and brother Loren “Buddy” Piercy. She graduated from Wolf Point High School and after living in several places in the lower 48 states and Alaska, moved back to Wolf Point in 1993 after many years in Loveland, Colorado. It was often said that they lived in every state west of the Mississippi River. Sally was a zealous book reader and an absolute crossword puzzle devotee. She would not miss the daily crossword and she also played in bridge, poker and whist clubs for many years. If it was a card game or board game going on, count her in! Sally liked to travel and she and Dick traveled abroad several times and extensively throughout the United States.
Her children and grandchildren brought her the biggest joys in life and she was keenly interested in all of their activities and supported them completely. Sally was fully devoted to her family and friends and was a strong disciplinarian, although not nearly as seriously as she appeared. She was never opposed to voicing her opinion and would do so very adamantly if it was something she felt strongly about. However, she was always willing to listen and respect other people’s opinions; you likely would not change her mind or views though. Sally was an incredibly determined woman, to say the least. She was a dedicated Elk’s member; past Exalted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge and was one of the first female Exalted Rulers in the United States. She was very instrumental and involved in saving the Elk’s from the demise it was facing in the late 1990s.
Sally is survived by her children Traci (Steve) Harada, Chuck (Stephanie) DeWayne, Linda (Creighton) Lake, granddaughters Krista (Jeremy) Brunelle, Kara and Sara Harada, Sydney and Carly Dewayne, great-granddaughters Mia, Parker and Kennedy Brunelle. Sally also leaves a sister Peggy (Cecil) Cardwell and nephews, nieces and grand nieces.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 am at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel with a luncheon to follow at the Wolf Point Elk’s. Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend Sally will be dearly missed by many but her memories and lessons will last forever.
