Sandra Lee Red Elk Adams, age 61, of Fort Kipp, Montana was called home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2008 due to complications of dialysis.
Sandra was born on December 13, 1946 in Poplar to Mary Iron Bear and Herman Red Elk, Sr. She was raised by her grandparents, Matthew and Rose Eagle Boy of Chelsea, Montana.
Sandra was a dental technician for twenty-two years as she worked in various states for Indian Health Services. She was a ladies traditional dancer and she loved to go to her pow-wows around the reservations and Canada.
She liked watching her grandchildren dance and would always laugh and say that “they’re trying their best.” She was a lifetime member of the D.A.V.(Disabled American Veterans) Auxiliary and also a member of the Post #82 of Culbertson, Montana. She also was currently serving as Secretary/Treasurer of the Red Eagle Presbyterian Church in Fort Kipp. Sandra was very active in participating with the Red Eagle Church in Fort Kipp, Montana planning lunch sales. She also enjoyed going to church every Sunday and singing her favorite Dakota Hymns. Sandra enjoyed traveling to Dakota Presbytery meetings held throughout the United States. Her favorite time of Holidays was Christmas…she loved to wrap presents and sit and visit with her family. “It’s better to give than to receive” she would always say. She loved her husband, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews and she was greatly loved by all family and friends.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Pastor Harold “Buddy” Adams; son, Robert Harrington of Poplar; two adopted daughters, RaShane Walking Eagle and An’Julie Adams both of Wolf Point; two step-children, Quincy (Carolyn) Charette of Poplar and Patricia (Mike) Turcotte of Wolf Point; her brothers and sisters: Flora Eagle Boy of Poplar; Gloria Buckles of Minot, North Dakota; Irene Lowry of Poplar; Dallas Eagle Boy of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Valarie (Arnie) Schurz, Scottsdale, Arizona; Willard (Gerry) Eagle Boy, Floyd Eagle Boy, Arnold Eagle Boy, Herman (Bonnie) Red Elk, and Marlon (Gaye) Red Elk, all of Poplar; Lorne (Benie) Red Elk of Pacetello, Idaho; Linda (David) Lezard, Beth (Jacob) White Bull, Myra (John) Daniels, Cheryl (Harold) Boyd, Charmaine Iron Bear, Harry (Shannon) Iron Bear, James (Lanelle) Iron Bear, Anthony (Patrice) Iron Bear, Lonnie Iron Bear, all of Poplar; and numerous nephews, nieces and grandchildren.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Iron Bear and Herman Red Elk; her grandparents, Matthew and Rose Eagle Boy; sisters and brothers, Savannah Mable Sparvier, Betty Jo Iron Bear, Cynthia Sparvier, Isabelle Kidder, Merle Iron Bear, Nelson Eagle Boy, Melvin Eagle Boy and Alfred Iron Bear; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Red Eagle Church in Fort Kipp with a Family Service at 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Poplar Cultural Center with interment following at the Poplar City Cemetery.
