Serena Babe Necklace Shields Good Soldier, age 77, of Culbertson, MT, formerly of Fort Kipp, MT passed away August 7, 2009.
Serena was born to Patrick Necklace and Stella Halfred Necklace of Fort Kipp, MT on October 18, 1931. She attended Brockton High School and was a snare drummer in the high school band.
In February of 1952 she married Kenneth K. Shields, Sr. at the Dakota Presbyterian Church in Poplar. From this union eight children were born. They later divorced in 1976 but remained friends. She remarried in 1982 to Ambrose Good Soldier at Devil’s Lake, ND. She worked at the Tribal Jail as a cook and was a member of the Ladies Aide, Relief Society, Ladies Auxiliary-Nathan Crazy Bull Post 54, and the Dakota Choir. She enjoyed making crazy quilts, sewing, riding around, visiting family and friends, and she loved taking her grandchildren places and bringing them gifts and treats.
Serena is survived by her sons: Kenneth D. Shields Jr. (Judy), Darrell S. Shields, Lester Shields and Russell Shields (Lynette), adopted son Cody Eagleman ; daughters Cheryl Cantrell (Richard) and Arleda Shields; adopted daughter Pauline Boxer, all of Poplar; 29 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Serena is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Kenneth, her husband Ambrose, brothers Selfred, Marvin and Verle, sisters Viola, Myrtle, Lida, Loatie and Almena, sons Myron and Vernon and a granddaughter whom she raised Stephanie.
A Wake will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at Poplar Cultural Center and Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Poplar Cultural Center with interment following at Fort Kipp Cemetery.
