Shirley Mae Standing, age 75 of Wolf Point, MT passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at NEMHS Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point of natural causes.
She was born October 4, 1933, in Nashua, MT to Ester Lillian (Olson) Zeiger and Arthur Allen Zeiger.
Shirley married Gifford Vearl Standing who passed away March 29, 2000
She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Nashua where she taught Sunday school for several years. She was also a Teacher’s Aide, Cook, Nurse’s Aide, Housewife and Mother. Shirley drove bus and over many years she was foster mom to 52 kids. Her favorite color was blue. She loved sewing and made quilts for almost all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley loved her garden and taking care of her dogs. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sports events and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her children, Jean (Dennis) Smetana of Roundup, MT, LeRoy (Vicki) Wiseman of Glasgow, MT, Jane (Ortie) Twitchell of Park City, MT, Irene (Lowell) Standing of Oswego, MT, Brenda (Eldon) Porras of Wolf Point, MT and Kevin Standing of Wolf Point, MT; grandchildren, Lane and Robbie Wolff, Sheila, Levi and LeDale Wiseman, Teresa and Jory Twitchell, Gifford A., Dani, and Denean Standing, Eldon and Tara Porras Twila Melbourne; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Donald Zeiger of Three Forks, MT and three sisters, Eldora Skolrud of Nashua, MT, Audrey Weik of Spanaway, WA and Marilyn of NY and two step-children Curt Standing of Oswego, MT and Sheila Standing of Frazer, MT; 6 step-grandchildren, Kristie Standing, Eugene Stump, Sheronne Redstone, Brockie, Chans, Errol Standing and Cyrenna Standing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gifford; one brother, Ronald Zeiger and three sisters, Janice Wright, Carol Farrar and Myrna Erickson; one step-son Bernard Standing. She was born October 4, 1933, in Nashua, MT to Ester Lillian (Olson) Zeiger and Arthur Allen Zeiger.
At her request cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 6, 2009 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel, Wolf Point, MT.
