With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen Scott Shumway of Wolf Point on June 2, 2024, at his home.

Steve was born Sept. 25, 1950, in Scobey, Mont., to Herman and Marlene Shumway. He grew up in Wolf Point and graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1968.

Steve was drafted into the U.S. Army in June of 1970 and served in the Vietnam War from April 1971 to January 1972 as a field artilleryman. He was honorably discharged in 1972.

Steve held multiple jobs ranging from ranch hand, UPS driver and helped manage Dad’s Bar for 27 years before retiring from Montana State Highway Department in 2012.

During his retirement, Steve could be found taking drives around the local area with his dog, Willy.

Steve always told stories highlighting his life that involved lending a helping hand to area ranchers branding, golfing and fishing in Wolf Creek. Steve’s favorite stories revolved around the “The Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive of 1989” and helping Marvin Brookman at rodeos.
