Susan Hanson

November 7, 1951 — February 16, 2020

Brockton – Susan Diane Yoder Hanson (68) went to Heaven early in the morning on February 16th, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Poplar to Donald & Cora Yoder on November 7th, 1951. She grew up as an only child, helping her parents on the farm, playing with friends and spending time loving on her favorite farm animals. She attended Anderson School for the first six years of her schooling and then transferred to Poplar Schools where she graduated in 1969. Susie went to Bozeman to attend Montana State University and came home to the farm during the summer months. She married her best friend, Gary Hanson, in 1973. She graduated in 1974 with a Business degree. Susie worked at TAP, Inc and Gary worked for Wytana Ranch. They lived in Bozeman until 1975 when they moved back to the Yoder family farm and farmed with her mom and dad north of Brockton. In the early years of returning to the farm, she enjoyed league bowling and singing in Sweet Adelines with her close friends. Susie took classes and received her teaching certificate in 1977. She then started her teaching career at Brockton High School where she taught Business for 36 years. She loved teaching and made several lifelong friendships there.

Susie and Gary welcomed a daughter into the world in the Summer of 1983. Lacy was the joy of Susie’s life. She shared her love of singing with Lacy and the two of them sang together often at Faith Free Lutheran Church, where Susie was an active member and regularly played piano for the congregation in later years. Susie adored her three granddaughters and loved spending time with them, making countless memories both on the farm and visiting them in Minnesota.

She enjoyed her time with Gary, taking long walks with him down the gravel road with the barn cats trailing behind, driving around checking fields with him, and spending endless hours talking with him and their friends.

Susie was a loving wife, mother, niece, grandmother, and friend. She had a gift of making others feel loved and heard. She blessed so many people’s lives. Her relationship with Jesus was evident in her everyday life and felt by those around her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gary Hanson; her daughter Lacy and son-in-law Jeff Helget; her granddaughters Aurora (10), Bella (7), and Savannah (8 months); her aunts Hazel Shank, Ruth Howell, and Darlene McCormick; her Uncle Delmer Yoder and his wife Ruth; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Cora Yoder; her uncles George Verwolf, John Shank, Vern Howell, and Gene McCormick; her aunts Gladys Wilt and Lucille Janson; and her cousin Jimmy Howell

A memorial service will be held at Faith Free Lutheran church north of Brockton at 11am on March 21, 2020.
