Sylvester Moran Sr.

Sylvester “Che be be,” “Red” Moran, Sr. age 83 of Wolf Point, MT passed away on May 24, 2009 at Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.

Sylvester was born January 14, 1926 in Trenton, ND to Theresa Morin Moran and Roger Moran Sr.

He was a devout Catholic and married Susan Mary Azure on May 11, 1948 in Wolf Point, MT. They were married 61 years.

Sylvester was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. He was a veteran serving in the Army Air Corps, 1944-1946, 39th Photo Recon Squadron, in the European Theatre and received an Honorable Discharge. He lived for a time in Trenton, ND and Wapahton, ND. From 1946 to the present Sylvester lived in Wolf Point. He worked 43 years for Great Northern Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad as Section Foreman.

Some of Sylvester’s special interests were hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling with family, riding around in“Black Beauty” with grandchildren and dogs, taking “Four-Finger Pulls” and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.

Sylvester is survived by his wife, Susie of the family home; three sons, Sylvester Jr.(Cathy) Moran of Bellingham, WA, Randy Moran of Wolf Point, MT and Stanley Sr. (Janice) Moran of Wolf Point, MT; brothers, Alfred (Rose) Moran Sr. of Columbia Falls, MT, Bernard (Shirley) Moran of Poplar, MT and Toby (Claudette) Moran of Aberseen, SD; sisters, Agnes Garfield of Wolf Point, MT, Margie (Jerry) White of Ashland, WI and Madonna LeCaine of Los Angeles, CA; 7 grandchildren, Tori Matejovsky of Wolf Point, MT, Janelle Moran of Bellingham, WA, Marcus Moran of Bellingham, WA , Philline Moran of Poplar, MT, Melissa Ragels of Peoria, AZ , Stanley Jr. Moran of Wolf Point, MT and Bradley Moran of Wolf Point, MT and 4 great grandchildren, Miranda Moran of Peoria, AZ, Lane Ragels of Peoria, AZ , Jasmine Munoz of Poplar, MT and Owen Moran of Wolf Point, MT and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Theresa Moran; sisters, Grace and Cecelia Moran and his brothers Roger, Charles and Reuben Moran.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, MT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point, MT with Father Steve Zabrocki as celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.stevensonandsons.com. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
