Our mom, grandma, auntie started walking the streets of Gold in Heaven; Wednesday, 01/04/2023. She is rejoicing with our dad, Collins Rising Sun and her beloved daughter, Faith Rising Sun. She was also greeted by so many relatives in heaven that I’m sure the angels were singing songs of glory as they welcomed her into the Pearly Gates of Heaven.
Mom was born to Eva Allison Eagle Bear and Frances Eagle Bear on 2/26/1929. She was the last living relative of her generation. She lived a long and happy life for 93 years.
She has instilled countless memories to anybody she may have met. Her high school years took her to Northern Cheyenne Tongue River Boarding School. This is where she met the love of her life, our dad, Collins Rising Sun. They were united in marriage on January 2, 1951. Their union brought their first daughter to this world, Faith Bernice Rising Sun, on October 5, 1951. The second daughter they welcomed into this world was on February 7, 1959, Avis Denise Rising Sun Prentice. Six years later the two sisters were so happy when mom and dad brought them their baby brother, Zane Collins Rising Sun.
Faith brought our pride and joy into the world, her daughter, Lonelle Lynn Rising Sun, on March 24, 1971. Sadly, Faith was called back to heaven on September 15, 1981. At that time our mom and dad took over as Lonelle’s parents. So since that date she has been raised as our little sister.
On May 22, 1985 Our dad was abruptly taken from us, he was needed more in Heaven. Mom lived the many years without dad and was a widow when she journeyed to Heaven. She was a strong and resilient woman to be a cornerstone to Avis and Zane’s educational path to becoming professionals. Avis has earned the education to be a school administrator, but has chosen to be a teacher for 30 years. Zane completed his education to become, Dr. Zane Rising Sun! Mom was so proud of us, that it sometimes became annoying how she would rant and rave about us to anybody that would listen to her.
Mom worked at the Poplar Public School for 35 years in the kindergarten classrooms. She loved every single student that she had helped in kindergarten. We often had people come up to her and thank her for being a supportive teacher and how much she had helped them was priceless.
Avis and Zane both moved into North Dakota to finish their education and took professional employment within the state. Both are still living in Fort Yates, ND and Bismarck, ND. After mom retired she moved in with us and went back and forth between our families and homes. Grandsons: Jordon Prentice, Zane Prentice, Christian “Pugs” Prentice, Trent Prentice, Preston Prentice, Collins Rising Sun, Clay Rising Sun & Phillip Rising Sun. One lone granddaughter: Cheyenne Faith Rising Sun, all had the privilege to have grandma in their lives from their birth. There is a lot of grandma memories that have helped us get through this process.
Mom’s sister, Bernice Cummins went to heaven in 1999. Since that date she took on the mom role to her nephew/son, Pastor Jay & Joanne Cummins and their children Jacob (Stephanie) Cummins and children Bianca and Jaxon Cummins. Evan (Crystal) Cummins and children; Sydney, Taylor,Skylar, Tuxton. Aleena (Dustin) and children Jayce and Caysen.
