Teri L. Long Elk Red Star, Wakan Ishta Zi Win (Sacred Yellow Eyes Woman), age 39, of Rapid City, SD formerly of Poplar, MT passed away Monday, January 11, 2016 at Dakota Hospice in Rapid City.
She was born September 4, 1976 to Chauncey Wesley Long Elk, JR. and Sharon Yellow Owl. She grew up in Poplar, Wolf Point, and Rapid City, SD. She attended Poplar Schools and later got her GED and attended Fort Peck Community College. She worked as a manager at Town Pump in Wolf Point. Teri was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant; she received her certification in Billings. She worked at the Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point and owned a day care. She also worked at the Sherman Inn in Wolf Point and Amcon in Rapid City, SD. She loved being around her family. She enjoyed riding through the Black Hills National Forest, sight-seeing, beading, strolling through the park with her family and spending time with loved ones. Teri kept her family together and spent a lot of time tending to her son, Trey. She also sun danced at Chelsea and South Dakota. She also was a participant on the Anity Ride in 1996 with Arvol Looking Horse, along with her brothers and sisters. She later met Levi Red Star and married him, together they had 4 children. She lived in Wolf Point before moving to Rapid City, SD. She became sick and was hospitalized at the Reginal Hospital in Rapid City and also in Denver, CO University. After being hospitalized there for a short time, she was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
She is survived by her husband, Levi Red Star, Sr.; children, Trey Red Star, Levi Red Star, Jr., Marissa Red Star, Chantel Smith and Craig Denny Owens, Jr.; mother, Sharon Yellow Owl; sisters, Sunshine Eagleman, Jonnie Huerta, and Season Eagleman; brother, Chad Eagleman; aunts, Marie Yellow Owl, Fern Yellow Owl; nephews, Aaron Grant and Dorrance Grant; nieces, Tricia Lone Bear and Mariah Scott; along with other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and family relatives from Fort Peck, Standing Rock, and Rapid City.
Teri was preceded in death by her father, Chauncey Wesley Long Elk; son, O’Ryan Red Star; Rhonda Yellow Owl; grandpa and uncles, Doug, Warren, and Myron.
