Theodore “Smitty” The Boy, age 71, of Wolf Point, MT our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on March 9, 2011.
Smitty, the son of Stanley Rye and Carmelita The Boy, was born November 8, 1939 in Hays, MT.
Smitty served in the Navy in 1958 and traveled around the world. He was honorably discharged in 1965. He was known as a jack of all trades. He worked for the Head Start as a bus driver and a carpenter for FPHA. Smitty worked as a master carpenter for the majority of his adult life. Smitty was very intelligent and was IQ tested at a genius level. He was very much loved by his family and friends. He will be forever missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret The Boy of Glendive, MT; sons, Adam The Boy of Glendive, Theodore (Heather) The Boy of Wolf Point, Teddy Winchell of Billings, MT; daughters, Arleda (Jason) Stiles of Wolf Point, Thelma (Clifford) Bird of Glendive, Wilma (Jerome) The Boy of Glendive, Shannon Winchell of Billings; 2 adopted sons, Jimmy Rider of Regina, Canada and Melvin Lilley Jr. of Wolf Point; sister in law, Margaret June Martin of Hays, MT; sisters, Connie Lang of Seattle, WA, Alta Stuker and Dorthy Stour of Great Falls, MT, and Joe Martin of Harlem, MT; 26 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Rye and Carmelita The Boy; brothers, Harold Martin; cousin, Billy The Boy; a son and two daughters; adopted mother, Cecilia Martin; grandfather, Chief The Boy, descendent of the flat-pipe carrier, the last Chief of the Gros Venture Tribe (Bheas) and who he was raised by; brother-in-law, Darcy Eashappie Sr.; nephew, Darcy “Moose” Eashappie Jr.; and mother-in-law, Rose Marie Bercier.
A wake will be held 7 p.m. Friday, March 11 at the Wolf Point Community Hall. He will then be moved to the Green Building in Hays, MT where a wake will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the Martin’s family cemetery in Hays, MT.
