Velma Geneva Balder age 94 of Wolf Point, MT passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point.
Velma was born to Charles and Nellie Sheehan on July 18, 1923 at Elmdale in Richland County, MT. She was the 8 th child of 5 sisters and 8 brothers.
Velma met John Edmond Balder (Bud) at an old country school dance. They were married June 10, 1940 in Sidney, MT. She was baptized June 3, 1984 at the1st Presbyterian Church in Wolf Point.
Velma was a house wife and Bud’s partner in farming, raising sheep and registered Hereford cattle and bulls. She loved to fish and they spent a lot of time at their cabin at Rock Creek. Her good nature, quick wit and sense of humor was delightful to everyone. Velma grew large gardens, loved to dance, dressing up for Halloween, being in plays at Pleasant Valley School and enjoyed working at the church for the white elephant sale.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud Balder; Sisters Sylvia, Hazel, Lila, and Alice; Brothers Ivan, Carl, Liedern, Charles, Leonard, Gerald, Ed, and Jim; Nephew Earl Babcock; and Nieces Beverly Doornek and Phyllis Peters.
Velma is survived by Nephews, Elray Rosaaen and Grant Boysun; Nieces Joyce Smith, Penny Kolstad, Judy Page, Cheryl Sievers, Darlene Rosaaen and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Following all services, a reception will be held at Harry’s Nite Club.
