Vera Olson

June 26, 1929 — December 7, 2008

On December 7, 2008 Vera Olson, our mom, grandma, big momma and friend left us to join our Lord Jesus, and her soul mate, Stoney.

Vera Wolf was born to Emmanuel and Theresa Wolf on June 26, 1929 in Hazen, ND. She joined two sisters and one brother. At the age of ten months, Vera and her family moved to McCone County near Circle, MT. Vera was a country girl through and through. During her childhood years she had many jobs: cooking, cleaning, babysitting, milking cows, riding horses, driving truck. She not only did this for family but hired out to neighbors as well. She was an outdoors person and if she was working in the field she was very happy.

At a young age of fourteen, Vera’s best friend kept bugging her about a blue-eyed, blonde-hair cousin with a unique chuckle. Vera reluctantly met this young man by the name of Stoney Olson. It was love at first sight and Stoney didn’t have a chance. It took six years, but on December 28, 1949, Vera Wolf became Vera Olson and two souls were united forever.

Then on June 9, 1954, a daughter, Debera Renea, was born and life was and never would be the same. Vera stayed very busy on the farm taking care of her family, having large and beautiful flower beds. Even in retirement her flowers were a labor of love. She loved to cook and was known for her dinners, 4-course meals for the harvesters, delivering them to the fields. In her spare time she did crafts of all kinds including rug hooking, wall de’cor, refrigerator art including parrots and dogs, book mark gloves and mice, and tissue box heads to name a few. Everything she made was big, bright and beautiful. She baked and decorated cakes from birthday, special occasions, anniversary and up to 7-tier wedding cakes. Her greatest love was sewing and sew she did. She never bought an outfit. If she saw something in the store she liked she would buy some material, go through her array of patterns and make it. She was known for her bright and beautiful clothes and that she and Stoney always matched.

Life on the farm was busy but there was always time for friends and going out, especially if there was a dance, for Vera loved to dance, and her favorite was the Waltz.

It is said that you have only one great passion in life, but for Vera she had two: her husband of 58 years and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, for 50 years. Vera joined this prestigious organization in 1958. During this long love affair she held many offices and was on many committees. She was known for her Poppy Centerpieces, Memorial Day Programs, Mr. Yuck and Cancer Aid & Research Campaigns, and cooking her turkey dinners for 400 people. But her greatest achievements and her passion within a passion were, President (4 terms), District President, Official Flag Mender, and being “Conductress,” a position she held and loved for many, many years. She received her 50 year pin in March 2008.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, sister Aggie Stundahl, sister-in-law Margaret Wolf, brother-in-law Gene Twitchel, and soul mate and husband Stoney. She is survived by her daughter Debera; Grandsons BJ and Matt; Great-grandchildren Cait, Nic, Cassi, Stoney and Hunter; siblings Lu (Wolf) Benson, Ray (Shirley) Wolf, Marge (Wolf) Senner, Calvin Wolf and Darlene (Wolf) Twitchel.

Vera, mom, grandma, big momma, you will be missed, but as we let you go we are comforted by a peaceful thought: waiting for you is a blond-hair, blue-eyed man with a unique chuckle, smiling and saying “what took you so long woman, may I have this Waltz?”

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.stevensonandsons.com Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
