Vern Marvin Howell was born to Albert A and Omelia M. Howell on November 14, 1921 at Powers Lake, North Dakota.
He moved to Poplar, Montana in September 1936 and graduated from Poplar High School in 1939.
He entered into the military in 1942, serving 3 ½ years in Iran. He returned to Poplar after the war and in 1947 he married Ruth Yoder. To this union was born a son, James Vern Howell on July 13, 1951. James was killed in a place accident on July 20, 1973.
Vern enjoyed being in partnership at Moe Chevrolet Olds Cadillac in Poplar until 1960 when they moved to Denver, Colorado.
The last 30 years in Denver was spent ministering to the needy of the city for food, clothing and financial and spiritual help. Vern established a food bank which has met the needs of thousands.
Vern and Ruth retired and moved to Billings in December 2009.
Vern went to be with his Lord and Saviour at home on July 2, 2019. He is survived by his wife Ruth, one brother Al and many family members and friends.
Following a private burial service, a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church in Culbertson, Montana. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements and condolences can be left for the family by using the form below.
