Veronica M. Spotted Bird, age 56, of Woodlake, ND, formerly of Brockton, MT passed away December 11, 2009 at Wolf Point, MT.
Veronica was born October 26, 1953 in Poplar, MT to James and Lucy (Jones) Spotted Bird. She married Peter Ross Jr. of Woodlake, ND. Peter and Veronica later divorced but remained friends until the time of her passing. To this union three children were born: Darin, Lynette and Winona.
Veronica enjoyed reading her bible, going to bible studies and the fellowship of other Christians, going to camp meetings and church services. She did crossword puzzles and really enjoyed sitting outside in the summer sharing tea with visiting family and friends and she always had something cooked to feed you when you came to her home. She was a very loving grandmother and enjoyed time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Darin Ross of Grand Forks, ND and her two daughters, Lynette Ross of Poplar, MT and Winona (James) Brown of Grand Forks and a special step-son, Keenan Ross of Woodlake; six grandchildren: Clarissa Nomee and Anthony, Jocelyn, Ethan, Erin and Kyle Brown all of Grand Forks ; Jennifer Stiles (with whom she shared a special bond and helped raise) of Wolf Point, MT and Jennifer’s sister, Melina Shields (whom she also helped raise) of Woodlake, N.D. Also surviving her is her sister, Geraldine Spotted Bird of Brockton, MT and her children: Gene(Lynette) Boyd of Poplar, MT, George Boyd of TX, Helen Boyd of Miles City and Patrick of Brockton, MT; her Uncle Joseph Jones of Oswego, MT; and her cousins Rebecca Clark of Poplar, MT, Susan and Calvin (Ike) Melbourne of Brockton, MT. She shared a special bond with Louie “Fraggles” Conklin Jr., Joseph Harold Chase Jr. and Beverly (Shaggs) Bird.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucy Spotted Bird; her brothers Alfred, Marvin, Donavan and baby brother Eugene Spotted Bird; Aunties Bessie Melbourne, Agnes Whitehawk, Jesse Walking Eagle, Alvis Bird and Gladys Lewis; Uncles Ralph Jones Sr., Frank Jones, Earl Jones Sr. and Steve Jones.
A Wake and Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Brockton Cultural Center in Brockton, MT. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Brockton Cultural Center followed by interment at Riverside Catholic Cemetery, Brockton, MT.
