Violet Eagle Bear Periette

Violet Eagle Bear Parriette, age 84, passed away September 14, 2009 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point, MT.

Violet was born October 29, 1924 in Poplar, MT to Francis and Eva (Allison) Eagle Bear. She attended schools in Poplar and received her AA in Business Administration at Haskell Indian College.

Violet met Alfred Parriette and married him on March 1, 1952 in Nevada. Violet and Alfred were blessed with two daughters, Annette and Jennifer. They shared a life together for fifty years before Alfred passed away in 2002.

Violet worked for Boeing in WA State during WWII. She worked at Whiterock Indian School in Whiterock, UT as a secretary; Stewart Indian School in Nevada as an Administrative Secretary; BIA Superintendent’s Secretary and BIA Social Services, in Fort Duchesne, UT. She was an excellent secretary and loved her job.

While living in Utah, Violet, with the help of friends, started the annual 4th of July Pow-wow. She also started the Miss Ute Tribe Pageant. She and Alfred started the selling of concessions at the Inter Tribal Basketball Tournaments.

Violet loved sewing clothes for her family and then sewing star quilts. She enjoyed making crafts, Bingo, traveling, Mexican food and visiting with friends. She was very outgoing, very likeable and a kind person. She was strong willed right to the end.

Violet is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one adopted brother, John Buffalo Horn, and sisters Mercalline Crazy Bull and Bernice Cummins.

Violet is survived by her daughters, Annette Parriette and Jennifer Littlewhiteman of Ft. Duchesne, UT; sister Sylvia Rising Sun of Poplar; brother, David Whiteman of Billings, MT; nieces Bernadette Dimas of Poplar and Avis Prentice of Frazer, MT; nephews Jay Cummins of Poplar and Dr. Zane Rising Sun of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren and two special great-grandsons Alexander Shavanaux and Nathanial Parriette.
Funeral Service for Violet will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Poplar Assembly of God Church. Interment will follow at Chelsea Cemetery.

Clayton-Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
