Violet Marie Martell

Violet Marie Martell, age 82, of Culbertson, MT passed away at her residence on Friday, April, 24, 2009.

Violet was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on August 11, 1926 to Nellie Katherine and Leonard Johnson. She was a high school graduate. On May 3, 1946 Violet married Maxim Willard Martell, Sr. He passed away on December 26, 2007. May 3 of 2009 would have been their 63 anniversary.

Violet lived in northeast Montana for 63 years; she also lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chicago, Illinois and the state of Iowa. Violet was a homemaker and she loved sewing, doing all kinds of craft work, spending time with her children and grandchildren and she loved doing anything that had to do with the church.

She is survived by six daughters, Maxine Zimmerman of Blair, MT, Marge (Tom) Ivy of Milwaukee, WI, Kathy (Justin) Round Face of Poplar, MT, Terri (Eli) Lone Bear of Lame Deer, MT, Vickie Martell of Denver, CO and Valarie Martell of Colorado Springs, CO; three sons, Max Martell, Jr., of Glendive, MT, Richard Martell of Blair, MT and John Martell, Sr. of Wolf Point, MT; three grandchildren that she raised, Jody Martell of Colorado Springs, Jon White Owl of Michigan and Samantha White Owl of Utah; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. We apologize if we have missed any family members.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Nellie Katherine (Dolly) Johnson; step father Lervey Strong, her husband, Max Martell, Sr.; three children, Marilyn, Jimmy and Mada Martell; two brothers Floyd Johnson and Ernie Johnson; three sisters, Viola Johnson, Evelyn Strong and Helen Strong Mendelson ; two grandsons, Maxim Martell III and Trinity Martell.

A Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar, MT. with Fr. Francis Schreiber as celebrant. Interment will follow at Martell Cemetery at the family ranch. Condolences may be sent to the family at www. stevensonandsons.com
