Violet Martin

May 4, 1934 — October 4, 2011

Violet Ruth (Holderman) Martin, age 77, of Wolf Point, MT passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point.

Violet Ruth Holderman, the daughter of Albert and Mary Holderman, was born during a dust storm at Mrs. Funks Hospital in Wolf Point on May 4, 1934. She attended school in Wolf Point for 12 years, graduating in 1952. She then worked at various places.

In 1952, she met Murl W. Martin and they were married in May of 1953 in Miles City, MT. They lived in Billings for 3 months until they were needed on the Martin family homestead south of Wolf Point. To this union, four boys were born, Chuck, Craig, Curt and Cam. During the years on the farm she prepared many wonderful meals. There was always enough for anyone who happened to stop by. She always grew a large garden and canned most of the produce. She was also well known for growing beautiful rose bushes. When she wasn’t cooking, gardening, or working on the farm, she enjoyed visiting with the neighbor ladies in the community and getting together for branding or a swim at the creek. They lived on the farm for 40 ½ years, until Murl lost the battle to cancer on December 8, 1994.

In her later years, Violet was involved in bible study, belonged to A.L.C.W., and volunteered at the Frontier school for 8 years. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends, as well as traveling, baking, puzzles and reading.

She is preceded in death by husband, Murl; sons, Craig and Curt Martin; parents, Albert and Mary; and siblings, Pearl Stelzer, Evelyn Dick, Durward A. Holderman, and Albert Holderman.

Violet is survived by her sons, Charles (Mary) Martin and Cameron (Jodi) Martin both of Wolf Point; granddaughters, Brittney (Keith) Nordlund of Sidney, MT, Kelcie (Brett) Bates, Mecaila Martin, and Mandi Martin all of Wolf Point; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Avrie, and Jacob Nordlund all of Sidney; brother-in-law, Robert (Gretchen) Martin of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A family service will be held 6 p.m. Sunday, October 9 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, October 10 at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point.
