Wanda Teichroew

December 12, 1918 — December 11, 2011

Wanda Teichroew, of Lustre, MT left this earth for her heavenly home on Sunday, December 11, 2011, one day short of her 93rd birthday at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, MT.

Wanda was born December 12, 1918 to John W. and Eva (Becker) Schroeder at Zurich, Montana. The family moved to South Dakota and later to Floodwood, Minnesota, where she spent her childhood and teen years. Her parents believed it was important that their children be taught about the Bible and the God who loved us and sent His Son to be our Savior. If there was no church around, her father held Sunday school and church in their own home for his own family and their neighbors. Wanda accepted Christ as her Savior as a very young teen and was baptized a short time later.

Following graduation from high school, she attended Evangelical Free Bible Institute in Chicago and later child evangelism training. Wanda worked as a housemaid to pay her way through college. She became involved in Child evangelism/ministries in many areas including Winnipeg, Manitoba and Rainier, Minnesota with her good friends Agatha Duerkson and Grace Hudson. She then moved to Poplar, Montana in the late 1940’s to work with a mission under the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church with Abe and Esther Teichroew. It was there she met Abe’s brother Jake whom she married on August 7, 1952. Subsequently Wanda took on the role of farm wife, in between helping with farm work, keeping a big garden, cooking and baking, and raising five children, Wanda was active in her church. Her main activities were teaching Sunday school, being a part of the Ladies Aid, including being its president for a number of years, and being an active part of the quilting committee.

Wanda enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and was frequently found reading, which instilled in her family, including husband Jake, a life-long love of reading.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 32 years, Jacob; an infant daughter Bonnie; 2 brothers, Edward and Leroy; and 2 sisters, Emma and Lillian.

She is survived by her three daughters: Bernadine (Nathan) Jacobson of Miles City, Barbara (Wally) Berklund of Park City, Beverly (Jerry) Lehrman of Brazil, and her two sons, Norman (Tamara); and Nolan (Michelle) both of Lustre; her ten grandchildren: Zoey (Ian) McRae, Audrey Beebe, Jonita (Tony) Colvin; Patrice, Angela, Melissa, and Jared Lehrman; Mackenzie, Courtney, and Anna Teichroew; and one great-granddaughter Mila Colvin. She is also survived by one sister, Olivia Carlson of Henning, MN; and one brother, Loyd Schroeder of Kansas City, KS, and one sister-in-law and her husband Eva Mae and Richard Olfert.

Memorials may be made to the Lustre EMB Ladies Missions. A prayer service will be held Sunday, December 18 at 6 pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19 at 2:00 pm at the Lustre EMB Church, interment in the church cemetery.
