Wayne Brian First was born to Reno First and Gladys Mazakahomani Feather December 26, 1967 in Poplar, Montana. Wayne went to school in Brockton and received his GED from Job Corps in Butte, Montana. Wayne was Baptized and a joined the Red Eagle Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fort Kipp, Montana. Wayne was a direct Descendent of Pa’baksa Yanktonia Chief Medicine Bear.
He enjoyed doing word finds, listening to music, visiting his friends telling a good joke and watching a good movie. Wayne was a general laborer and did various jobs. He was willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Wayne passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Wolf Point, he was 50 years old.
He is survived by brothers, Del and Tuffy First of Fort Kipp, Eugene (Sylvia) Hale of Saint Michaels, ND, Douglas Siviney of Fort Totten ND, Merval “Bobo” (Audrey) Sherman of Parshall, ND, and Joe (Elaine) Sherman of Fort Totten, ND; sister, Ruth Wyasket of Fort Duchesne, UT; daughter, Sunshine Big Leggins and 2 grandchildren of Wolf Point; aunts, Karen First Lizotte of Poplar, Ethelene White Hawk of Brockton, Merle and Flora Hapa; uncles, Jerome (Florence) First Jr. of Poplar, Leland (Doris) Spotted Bird of Brockton, Raymond Hapa of Sioux Valley, Canada; cousins who were like brothers & sisters to Wayne, Sheri Demarrias, Paul & Jeff Azure, Rena Ostby of Wolf Point, Denise DeMarrias of Denver Co, Nan and Thomasine Hamilton of Poplar; a Da’kota way Hu’ka sister, Sharon Yellow Owl of Poplar; adopted family of Sadie Adams of Wolf Point, and Carson Buck Elk who Wayne resided with at the time of his passing; 2 special cousins, who cared deeply for him and were first to offer help Pricilla Carpenter and Sissy Chopper; nephew, Corey Schindler of Wolf Point, Brett First of Fort Duchsene, UT, Kendell First of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; and nieces, Deunan First of Fort Duchesne, UT, and Kristy Sherman of New Town ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Nina and Jerome First Sr.; maternal grandparents, Henry Mazakahomani Feather and Jessie Demarrias; sister, Lois Ann Mazakahomani Feather; great kunsi, Sarah White; uncles, Dean First, Calvin First Sr., Abe Demarrias Sr., Casper DeMarrias; an uncle who he was named after, Wayne DeMarrias; aunts, Wilma First, Christine First, Winfred First Greybull, Mildred DeMarrias, and Vicky Spotted Bull Azure.
The families of the Perry, Black Dog, Four Bear, and White Eagles were his close relatives. He also had many relatives in Sioux Valley, Canumpa Wakpa, Canada, and Fort Totten, ND. If we forgot anyone please forgive us.
A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, January 19 at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20 at the James Black Dog Center in Fort Kipp. Interment will follow at the Fort Kipp Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point has been entrusted with the arrangements.
